Does raid leader determine the type of loot drop from bosses??

After raiding for more then a year in instances like MC, BWL and now Naxx/TAQ, I have somehow noticed that different raid leaders will have some trend of loot drop. For example, player A as a raid leader might be dropping more warrior stuff, player B as raid leader might be dropping more mage stuff. Also, there are guilds that are turning in all the Thunderblade part/AL/epic hammer week in week out, while some guilds have not seen any for ages.

Could raid leader (which will determine the seed for that instance) really be a factor in getting drops of your desire?Or is it just pure luck>>

I'd call "Myth" on that.

We always raid with the same leader, yet us warlocks quickly had full Felheart in MC (after about 7 months for 5 warlocks, yet in 35 Onyxia kills we only had 3 Nemesis headpieces drop (of which 1 time it was a double drop)

Pure chance. Although not getting a single binding for thunderfury in a year's worth of MC clearing makes you doubt sometimes. Yet even for this most elusive drop, there is actually a 5% chance that after a year you get nothing at all, so there is no reason to doubt that it is in fact random. And given that there are no big descrepancies between the classes for tier 1 after that same year (which mainly had only 2 raidleaders, and of the same class to boot) I'd call that one 'busted'.

I seem to recall that this theory was refuted by Blizzard, i.e. there is no correlation between whatever class is raid leader and the type/quality of loot that drops. It's all random, and streaks of luck (and lack thereof). How they get the seed for the random number generator, I really don't know - it could for all I know be some instrument somewhere measuring barometric pressure.. Seriously.

I never heard the raid leader theory... only the "loot seed" one. That loot seed meaning the first one to enter the instance sets the loot table or something. It sounds bogus but sometimes it does feel like there is validity to it at times. Every time our raid leader is the first one to enter the instance in MC we get like 4-5 rogue drops and a fel heart belt off trash. It's pretty insane... and only one time has Golemag not dropped a Nightslayer/Giantstalker combo (in which case it was Nightslayer/Felheart). When he has someone else enter the instance first, we seem to get a much better mix.

Probably just coincidence but it's still eerie.
