As far as spell crit goes, I remember one post, wherein the number was given for a level 60 mage with a specific amount of intellect. (I think it was 286).
The upshot is, spell crit depends on
-Your level
-your class
-your intellect
-some constants determined by blizzard.
So if blizzard determines that a mage's intellect at level 60 ought to be 286, it tells you that you need around 60 intellect to increase your spell crit chance by 1%. If you are playing a warlock, the numbers will be different. If you are only 59, the numbers will be different. If you have an intellect that's not 286, then you'll need a different amount of intellect for 1% crit.
Sounds complicated? yes, it is. Does anybody know how to work it? No. So what can we do about it? Well, you can either amass large amounts of data for classes, intellect, spell crit rates, and so forth, or you can live with uncertainty.
